What is Beatmatching?
Beatmatching is the DJ technique of adjusting the tempo and phase of two tracks until their beats align, so one can be mixed into the other without a rhythmic clash. It is the foundational skill of club DJing.
Manual beatmatching means nudging the pitch fader and jog wheel (or vinyl) by ear until the incoming track locks with the playing one. Modern gear offers a sync button, and using it is not cheating — but learning to beatmatch by ear trains you to hear drift instantly, keeps you functional on any setup, and frees attention for EQing, phrasing and reading the crowd. Most DJs learn it in weeks and refine it for years.
